5 Signs You Need an Electrical Inspection

Every day, you could have encountered electrical failures in your home but you have no idea what is causing them. It is easy to suspect if there seems to be a problem in the circuit, but it can be a tricky job if you do not know where to start. An electrical inspection is crucial for the health of your home’s electrical system, and every household should look into it as a serious matter. Preventive maintenance will keep your home safe against electrical hazards.

Electrical inspection and rewiring is critical to your home’s safety.

Why your electrical wiring system should be checked

How often do you think you will have an electrical expert conduct an inspection in your place? If it is 10 years after moving to your new home, that is literally a wide gap, because, by that time, the wirings have been stressed out from wear and tear.

Electrical failures you need to act soon

  1. Frequent lights flickering—How many times have you experienced when one of the lights in your house flickered? Were you scared that somebody might have been doing tricks on you? Or is it simply due to some fault in the fixture? A flickering light is a sign of faulty wiring. When the bulb starts to flicker or dim, it could be the bulb is worn out, or there could be an overload on the circuit and it could not accommodate or supply the power needed.
  2. Burnt smell on the outlets—If you sensed something smells like a burnt wire, check your wiring or cables, or anything attached to the outlets. If you notice darkening of the wall surface around an outlet, something could be wrong. And this is dangerous. Instances of burnt wires and anything electrical related to these are fire hazards. Do not attempt to touch that darkened spot or use it with any appliance. Call your trusted electrician right away.
  3. Buzzing sound on sockets—A buzzing sound on the sockets even before you attempt to plug in any electrical appliance could have a faulty wire inside. There could be an open wire or loose connection and wires that tangle with each other on the open junction. In such case for open wires, this is hazardous as they can be exposed to various offenders that can result to fire, such as water leaks.
  4. Circuit trips—An electrical panel is where your circuit breaker sits and distributes electricity through the circuit. You will notice a problem in your circuit breaker when a sudden use of any appliance goes awry. Perhaps the electrical load needed by the appliance is higher than what the circuit can supply. Also, it could be that such an appliance is faulty. Your circuit breaker will jeopardize when you have the habit to use one slot with too many appliances with an extension cord. As we know, octopus wiring is hazardous and can cause a fire when left unattended. If fuses fail, they could no longer bear certain appliances. Seek the advice of your hired electrician about these situations immediately.
  5. Hot walls near sockets and switches—Consistent warm wall near switches is normal, but if the wall becomes hot, and it is the first time it happened, it should be a cause for alarm. If in case you are using an appliance that needs higher voltage, try it plugging in a different outlet and see if the wall surrounding the outlet gets hot and go back to the old outlet if it still feels the same even without something plugged in it.
  • Change problematic light bulbs.
  • Check the correct outlet before plugging any electrical device.

What should be your primary reason for having an electrical inspection? Safety. It all boils down to safety. Your home is run by electricity 24 hours a day, and the electrical wiring system should be as safe as when they have been built. No matter how old your home could be, you should always ensure your safety in and out of your house, as this is your place of peace, comfort, and security.
